Advocacy Connections – BME elders project.

As part of the Reshaping Care for Older People agenda we have been successful in securing funding for a project to engage with older people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds and their carers. Over the next few months we will be meeting with as many individuals and groups as we can to hear their experiences of accessing services and their views on what they need from support in the community. If you, or anyone you know would like to get involved; as an individual or a group then please contact Catriona on 0141 420 0961 .

Hamiton Carer’s Event

Today, some of our staff attended the Royal Princes Trust Carers event at Hamilton Town Hall. There were guest speakers representing Psychiatry, Lanarkshire Association for Mental health, Social Work and Advocacy. The afternoon consisted of workshops about the challenges and positives of caring for loved ones with practical relaxation techniques, and team building exercises. Our aim at this event was to ensure that people are aware that advocacy is a service which is available to them. Our staff contributed by speaking at the event, raising awareness of case examples where we have worked alongside carers, providing information at stalls and answering question from carers attending.
